Description of the 2010 Cultural Capital of Canada signature

The three superimposed "C"s originate from the first three letters of the signature, 2010 Cultural Capital of Canada. Their dynamic movement fortifies the concept and the open shape of the "C"s, suggesting an openness to the world.

The "brushed effect" of the artistic line refers to the human being, as if an artist had painted it by hand. It also evokes the graphics of the visual identity adopted by the Department of Canadian Heritage to promote the Cultural Capitals program, which appears, among others, on the banners supplied by the government which are displayed in the City of Saguenay during the year of celebrations. Lastly, it ensures an excellent coherence between the two entities.

The "C" trio also refers to the three historical sites, symbols of economic and social development as defined by Memory Lane, the axis of communication designated by the municipality in the context of this particular year. These sites are :

  • The Site of Foundation (Grande-Baie)
  • The Site of Discovery (Chicoutimi trading post)
  • The Site of Industrial Expansion (Arvida, city of modernity)

The colours reproduced at 75% of the real intensity are directly taken from the city logo. Therefore they are quickly associated with one another.

The emphasis in red of the year 2010 harmonizes and invigorates the signature as a whole.

The City of Saguenay logo in connection with the signature of Saguenay, 2010 Cultural Capital of Canada

This variation proposes a balanced integration with the City of Saguenay logo. In the same way, the concept avoids overcrowding the two visual identities. The representation secures the appendage of the "g" in Saguenay and nestles beneath the wing of the municipality's logo.
