A Word from the Mayor
It is with great pride that Saguenay welcomes the title of 2010 Cultural Capital of Canada, which it considers an exceptional occasion to further develop our cultural and heritage activities. As I've mentioned on several occasions, we intend first and foremost for Saguenay's artists and craftspeople to primarily profit from the financial benefits that accompany this prestigious acknowledgement by the Canadian Government.
To all of our citizens, without whom our city's cultural vitality could not exist with such radiance, I would like to assure them of the city council's persistent focus on cultural and heritage development, which represents an important element of our action plan towards becoming a model Quebecois city. Together with the financial gains for the work of professional artists and artisans, we would like to take advantage of this national acknowledgement to recognize the invaluable contribution of the volunteers who are active in the city's cultural and heritage activities.
Let us embrace culture in Saguenay with more joy than ever this year, and work to ensure that the benefits sustain cultural vitality not only for us, but for the generations to come. Enjoy celebrating Saguenay - Cultural Capital!
Jean Tremblay
